West Lafayette, IND – No. 4 seed Purdue swept Loyola Chicago in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, ending the Ramblers’ historic season. The Boilermakers advanced to the Sweet 16 with the victory.
The Ramblers, who had upset BYU in the first round, put up a fight in the first set, but Purdue pulled away late to win 25-20. The Boilermakers dominated the second and third sets, winning 25-21 and 25-12, respectively. Momentum swung sharply after an unbelievable save by Ali Hornung that appeared to be off her foot or fist while she was on her back on the floor.
Purdue was led by Eva Hudson, who had 11 kills and 11 digs. Raven Colvin added 10 kills and 5 blocks. For Loyola, Courtney Cvitkovic had 10 kills and 6 digs.
The win puts the Boilers in the sweet sixteen against top-seeded Louisville on Thursday night at 9:30 pm. Louisville retains the homecourt advantage throughout the championship as they are also the host of the final four.
