As the Mad Ants returned home to Indy from a tough two-game losing trip to Sioux Falls, they looked to get back on track, when they took on the Grand Rapids Gold, who were also looking to rebound from a two-game losing streak from a trip to Iowa.
It wasn’t an easy one, though, as the Gold shined early. They out-hustled, out-shot and outplayed Indiana through most of the first three quarters. While the Mad Ants looked sluggish and slow, the Gold moved quickly- on and off the ball, crashing the boards and really taking advantage of every opportunity.
Grand Rapids shot lights-out from downtown through most of the game as well, relying on three-point territory to carry them and it did just that. Until the fourth quarter.
The final quarter of play saw the Mad Ants finally catch their composure and start to gel, turning up the defense and starting to catch their stride from the field.
It wasn’t enough though, as the game went into overtime and the Gold put the final dagger in the heart of the Mad Ants, outscoring them 8-3. Be that as it may, though, the Mad Ants are starting to show shades of a team coming together and feeling each other out.
If the Mad Ants continue this way, they could become a late-season threat and could easily find their way into the playoffs.
They will have a chance to avenge the tough OT loss, when they return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday to take on the Bulls, and hope to snap a three-game losing streak.
