The Fighting Irish women’s basketball team welcomed ACC opponents Wake Forest to Purcell Pavilion today, showing yet again why they’re No. 1 in the country, holding the Demon Deacons to 48 points on just 28% shooting.
While they played a little sloppy in transition, defense is what won the game for Notre Dame. Sophomore Center Mikayla Vaughn led the Irish charge with four of the team’s eight blocks, followed by Senior Forward Jessica Shepard, who led the team with 16 points.
The Irish played a near-flawless game on both ends, with 11 steals, 46% from the field (38% from the three), and out-rebounding Wake Forest 55-33.
Notre Dame continues to prove Purcell a tough arena to come into and win, with Sunday’s 78-48 win being one of the lowest point totals allowed and improves them to 16-1 (4-0 Conf.).
