In the second Sweet Sixteen match of the night Purdue takes on the Houston Cougars. Houston is the Number 1 seed in the Midwest region and is favorite to win. Purdue brought the Paint Crew from West Lafayette, and they were ready. Purdue played Houston close in the first half matching thein energy going toe to toe with the Cougars. Flecther Loyer hit a three pointer to put Purdue up and hype the crown in the middle of the first half. At the end of the half Houston Fouled Braden smith with.03 left on the clock to send him to the line. He hit the two free throws and Purdue took a 31-29 lead into the half. there were 7 ties and 10 lead changes in the first half. Houston starts the second half trying to pick up the pack taking a quick 8-point lead as Purdue tries to hang in there with the momentum of the crowd behind them. Houston continues to carry a 5-point lead into the halfway point of the second half. Milos Uzan hits a two three pointer in a row to put Houston up by 10 with 7:55 to go in the game that deflated the crowd for a bit. Purdue fought back to cut the deficit to two with 4:17 to go in the game. LJ Cryer put Houston up by 5 with about 2:40 to go in the game as Matt Painter called a time out.  Trey Kaufman-Renn slammed it home to bring the Boilermakers within three. Fletcher Loyer hits a three to ties the game at 60 with 30 seconds to go. This forces Kelvin Sampson to call a time out with 29 seconds to go. With 2.2 seconds to go Milos Uzan takes passes the ball inbound gets it back for the layup under the basket. Purdue fell asleep on defense and paid for it. Houston escapes to win 62-60.
