Purdue continues to struggle with shutout home loss to no. 2 Oregon

The Purdue Boilermakers were looking to rebound from a heartbreaking OT loss at Illinois last week when the undefeated no. 2 Oregon Ducks came to town Friday night but it was not to be.

Just three minutes into the game, Oregon scored a touchdown and it set the stage for what was to come. After one quarter, the Boilermakers had not thrown a single pass and trailed 21-0 at halftime.

The Ducks failed to score in the third quarter, giving Purdue hope, especially with a Boiler interception just before halftime, but the Ducks went back to business in the fourth quarter, dominating Purdue in the passing game.

The bright spot for Purdue was the running game. They completely dominated Oregon on the ground with over 200 rushing yards and threating deep into Oregon territory on a few occasions but were also their own worst enemy, fumbling the ball and not capitalizing on long drives.

In the end, Oregon’s speed and deep-pass offense was just too much for Purdue to handle, with Oregon staying perfect with a 35-0 win and Purdue falling to 1-6, continuing a five-game losing streak.

Purdue is off next week, as they look to rebound on November 2- and potentially keep Head Coach Ryan Walters’ job safe as they host Northwestern, just one week before Ohio State comes to town.
