Purdue falls hard at home as Notre Dame rebounds at Ross-Ade Stadium

It’s been a rough run for Purdue when they face Notre Dame- especially at home- with the Fighting Irish holding an overall 59-26-2 record and 28-14-2 of that coming in West Lafayette. However, when the Boilers returned to action today after a bye week, they looked to kick Notre Dame when they were down following a massive upset to Northern Illinois last week.

It wasn’t meant to be, however, with Notre Dame scoring 48-yard Jeremiyah Love touchdown within just minutes followed up by a QB Keeper from Riley Leonard to close the first quarter.

Leonard scored the next two touchdowns- 34 yards and 13 yards, the latter of which came on a fake handoff. No matter how hard Purdue tried, they just couldn’t get the defensive stops or their offense going and the few times they did, the Fighting Irish would stomp out the fire quickly.

Luck wasn’t on the side of the Boilermakers either, with QB Hudson Card scrambling for a first own but the ball flying into the hands of Notre Dame defensive lineman Boubacar Traore for a 34-yard pick six, followed up by a Jadarian Price 70-yard touchdown run with just 4 seconds left in the first half.

The second half saw Purdue come out swinging, scoring a five-yard touchdown pass but it proved to be the only spark of offense the Boilers would have.

Notre Dame trying to run the clock out but Purdue wasn’t able to get the stops, leading to even more big plays breaking loose and more Fighting Irish touchdowns and a final score of 66-7.

Purdue returns home in two weeks, when they will take on the visiting Nebraska Cornhuskers and will be looking to avenge the tough Saturday loss.
