East Lansing, Mich. – No. 14 Michigan State gymnastics (5-3, 2-0 B1G) made a triumphant return to Jenison Field House for their home opener on Sunday, Jan. 28, defeating No. 20 Iowa (2-2, 0-2 B1G) with a score of 197.400-195.600. The meet also highlighted the Spartans’ Alumni Day and 50th Anniversary Celebration.
Michigan State continued its unbeaten run in the Big Ten. The historic home opener featured Nikki Smith’s perfect 10.000 on the floor, highlighted MSU’s victory, securing the highest home opener score in program history. The win also marked the Spartans’ first regular-season triumph over Iowa since Jan. 18, 2015.
The Spartans look forward to a face-off against in-state rival Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 4, at 4 p.m., with the meet airing nationally on Big Ten Network.
