Lexington, KY – The Kentucky Wildcat gymnastics squad kicked off their 2024 home season in front of 10,000-plus in attendance with Excite Night on Friday against the Georgia Bulldogs at Rupp Arena. The Cats certainly excited the crowd early with pyrotechnic introductions and continuing on to the first event, where Makenzie Wilson would land a perfect 10 to round out the vault rotation.
The bars rotation would see Kentucky extend their lead over the Bulldogs with all five counted scores 9.850 or higher. Next up would be the beam, where the Cats would yet again put up five scores of 9.850 or higher and stretch the lead to over a point heading towards the floor exercise. The floor exercise would be where Kentucky truly shined on this night, putting up three straight 9.900 or higher scores before Raena Worley closed out the event with a perfect 10.0, her first perfect score. After the team celebrations at the center floor, she exuberantly ran into the crowd and up the stairs to embrace her parents and what will surely be a lifetime memory for the super-senior. Worley would also take the all-around victory over teammate Rodriguez with a score of 39.600 to 39.325.
The Wildcats would also set a new program record score with their 197.950.
Next up for the Cats will be a road meet against Alabama on February 2 before returning home in two weeks to face off with Missouri on the 9th.
