In the game that has been marked on the calendar all year for IU Women’s Basketball fan as the must-see game, it was the game to see. The atmosphere, the intensity, the hype all lived up to its billing throughout the game. #6 Indiana defeated #2 Ohio State 78-65 in front of a regular season record crowd at home tonight. All American Mackenzie Holmes dominated the middle, scoring 26 points to lead the Hoosiers to victory. Not only did Holmes have a great night but four Hoosiers scored in double digits to lead to victory. It was the third quarter performance by Indiana that blew the game open and took the hearts of the Buckeyes. You could see the frustration setting in on Coach Kevin McGuff as calls were not going his way. The Hoosiers outscored Ohio State 27-6 in the third quarter and never took their foot off the gas from there. “It really kind of snowballed on us,” Ohio State coach Kevin McGuff said, referring to IU’s 27-6 third quarter. “Give Indiana credit. They played really well through that stretch.”
Freshman Yarden Garzon looked like she had ice water in her veins scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds against one of the top teams in the country. This will look good on her bid to win Freshman of the Year. She is a future leader in the making for this team. Indiana is now 19-1 and looks to jump into the top 5 after the victory. Rutgers will be in town on Sunday afternoon and hopefully all 10,455 who were in attendance will be there to see this top team perform.
