The Eleven entered the contest on Saturday night with a 12 game home winning streak and a 27 game home unbeaten streak during the regular season. I guess 5 matches in 14 days finally caught up to them as the Eleven loss to Sporting Kansas City II 1-0. The streak began on July 4, 2018.
Daniel Barbir in the 70th minute scored the only goal of the game, kicking it high enough to give the Eleven goalie Jordan Farr no chance of touching it as it faded into the top corner.
Tyler Pasher during the 84th minute had a great shot at a goal but it went over the bar. Andrew Carleton and Ilija Ilic had nice shots during the 86th minute but could not score. Sporting KCII had to survive 9 minutes of stoppage time to seal the victory and go home on a two game winning streak of their own.
Eleven coach Martin Ronnie said, “Obviously we’re disappointed to lose our first game in Lucas Oil I think over two years, it’s been a great run of mainly winning, a couple of ties here and there. Tonight, I feel like we looked tired.” Three matches in seven days can make you tired.
The Eleven will need some rest because the next game will be against the hated team from Louisville City on Saturday night, August 8th, on the road. Many will be taking that quick drive to root on the Eleven. It will be a good one.
