Colts make Week 16 roster moves

The Indianapolis Colts this week signed free agent safety J.J. Wilcox. The team also signed linebacker Tegray Scales to the practice squad and placed linebacker Skai Moore and defensive tackle Al Woods on the Injured Reserve list.

Wilcox, 6-0, 212 pounds, has played in 75 career games (39 starts) in his time with the New York Jets (2018), Pittsburgh Steelers (2017) and Dallas Cowboys (2013-16) and has compiled 211 tackles (153 solo), 1.0 tackle for loss, six interceptions, 16 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He has appeared in three postseason contests (two starts) and tallied nine solo tackles. In 2018, Wilcox saw action in five games with the Jets and recorded three solo tackles.

Scales, 6-0, 227 pounds, participated in the Los Angeles Rams’ 2018 offseason program and training camp before being waived on August 31. He originally signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2018. Scales participated in the Colts’ 2018 local pro day. Collegiately, Scales saw action in 48 games (26 starts) at Indiana and compiled 325 tackles (218 solo), 46.0 tackles for loss, 18.0 sacks, eight interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 16 passes defensed, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.

Moore, 6-2, 218 pounds, has spent time on Indianapolis’ active roster and practice squad this season. He saw action in nine games (one start) and registered four solo tackles. Moore was originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2018. Collegiately, he started 37-of-50 career games at South Carolina and totaled 353 tackles (213 solo), 20.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, 20 passes defensed, 14 interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Woods, 6-4, 330 pounds, has played in 111 career games (43 starts) in his time with the Colts (2017-18), Tennessee Titans (2014-16), Pittsburgh Steelers (2011-13), Seattle Seahawks (2011), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2010) and New Orleans Saints (2010). He has totaled 172 career tackles (93 solo), 15.0 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and three passes defensed. In 2018, Woods appeared in all 14 games (eight starts) and tallied 24 tackles (10 solo), 1.0 tackle for loss and one pass defensed.
